Gambia

With an area of just over 11,000 km² Gambia is the smallest country in Africa. That doesn’t mean that Gambia is inferior to other African countries! On the contrary, the West African country, which is completely surrounded by Senegal, impresses with an incredible wildlife and is known as a natural paradise. You are guaranteed to have the best African holiday in this paradise with its tropical rainforest regions all along the Gambia River and 80 km of wide, white sandy beaches along the Atlantic coast. You can visit Gambia with a (provisional) passport that is still valid for at least six months. At the airport you will receive a visa upon entry for which you only have to prove that you can show sufficient financial means for your stay and your return flight tickets. The visa is valid for 21 to 28 days.

Nevertheless you will also find the usual problems of an African holiday, such as petty crime and a lack of road safety. Gambia with its tropical warm climate is considered one of the countries in West Africa with the most pleasant climate. This mainly refers to the coast region because during the day temperatures can get higher than 40°C upcountry. In summertime the temperatures will reach 27°C and around 32°C. From November to May there are temperatures between 21°C and 27°C. Another plus point: the rainy and dry seasons are clearly separated. This makes vacation planning a lot easier. The dry season is recommended the best travel time for Gambia meaning the months from November to May. October and November are best for beach holidays because the water temperatures are the most pleasant. But the Atlantic has wonderful warm water all year round, so you can always jump into it. Something very special is waiting you from November to February: Countless migratory birds come to Gambia to spend the wintertime there. Your chance to see the birds close up!
